The Bill Foulkes Championship Trophy is played in June. It is a Medal play competition from the orange tees. The player with the best gross score wins the Bill Foulkes Championship Trophy and is declared “the senior section champion”. The winner’s name is inscribed on a club honours board, and the winner retains a smaller replica copy of the trophy.
Until 2024, the Prentice Salver was awarded to the Seniors section Champion. However, following a bequest from the estate of Bill Foulkes the Senior Men’s Championship was revised to make it a more high-profile event with drawn tee times, a starter, a rolling buffet and presentation of the new Trophy. Bill Foulkes was Senior Men’s Captain in 2004. Bill was the owner of the sailing chandlery “Aladdin’s Cave”.
The other two Senior Men’s Championship trophies are the Jubilee Jug which is awarded for the lowest gross score (75 or over category) and the Noel Highton Challenge Trophy which is awarded for the lowest Nett score.
Note: Up to 2005 a player was eligible to win or be runner up for both trophies. From 2006 a player can only win one trophy.
